The Climate Change and Development Authority (CCDA) with the support from Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) have finalised the four (4) National REDD+ Safeguards Guidelines, namely; the REDD+ Development Guidelines (RDG), Free Prior Informed Consent Guidelines (FPIC), Benefit Sharing Distribution System Guidelines (BSDS) and the Grievance Redress Mechanism Guidelines (GRM). These guidelines were drafted and widely consulted on since September 2021 with a final nod from the REDD+ Technical Working Committee on Tuesday, 1st of March 2022. These National Safeguards were validated on the 16th March, following NEC approval through Decision 212/22. It will be a useful guard for drafting of regulations in line with Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
The final consultation workshop will also introduce a new project Enabling Green Growth in Papua New Guinea to Address Climate Change, Conservation and Biodiversity, funded by the Australian Government.
